Background
Space Robotics Meets Nutrition
A Unique Story - A Powerful Combination
The Thought that Started It All...
"With thousands of top researchers studying nutrition, why is everyone still just counting calories?"
Meet Joe Graves Founder and CEO
From a unique history, a unique product is born. From 1990 to 2003, Joe Graves served as the lead engineer for the advanced space robot, Ranger NBV. The 2000 lb. robot is designed to complete large-scale tasks such as building space stations, refueling satellites, and complex repairs such as those required for maintenance of the Hubble Space Telescope.
In preparing for the robotic space mission, Joe was blessed to gain a great range of experience, from leading teams in mechanical, electrical, software, and control system design, to working underwater in space suits at NASA's astronaut training facility.

Ranger is a robotic program of NASA Headquarters in Washington DC, and the UMD Space Systems Laboratory
|
His educational background (undergrad and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace and Space Robotics Engineering), along the unique nature of the space mission also gave him many speaking opportunities, with presentations at Princeton, MIT, Carnagie Mellon, Stanford, and more.
During the peak of development, he was also honored to be the Keynote Speaker at the International Space Development Conference in New York. He has participated in many national newspaper, magazine and television interviews (Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, The Discovery Channel, etc., along with live national network news interviews)
A Powerful "Spin-Off" Technology
NASA encourages spin-off technologies that improve existing industries. In that spirit, Joe Graves decided that some of the approaches that he had developed for the Ranger mission should be used to help solve some of the important problems of society.
Joe's activities in support of the robotic mission, along with his personal interests required that he maintain a high level of physical fitness and nutrition. This personal interest lead him to create a spin-off technology within this field.
The National Academies of Science, through the Institute of Medicine, routinely releases detailed reports summarizing the findings of thousands of the world's top nutrition researchers. Joe decided to use use some of the advanced mathematical methods from robotics to make it much easier to apply the full richness of these findings to an individual's daily life.
Combining the Science of Nutrition and Robotics
This new system, named "Vitabot" (a combination of the science of nutrition and robotics) was designed to take meal planning to a whole new level. In an industry focused primarily on counting calories, Vitabot was designed to shift the focus toward balanced nutrition.
Vitabot lets advanced mathematics "think" for the user, and helps them to easily put foods together, not just to balance calories, but to balance micronutrients as well. Vitabot performs hundreds of thousands of calculations for every set of nutritional suggestions. The equations and the resulting suggestions are designed to allow the nutritional data to speak directly to the user, without personal interpretation.
This approach creates an amazing new way to look at foods. Allowing the data to speak for itself reveals basic truths such as, "Apples for Fiber", or "Almonds for Vitamin E and Omega 6". But by allowing the system to search the full range of nutritional data, without human bias, a wealth of nutritional knowledge is revealed that most of us have not been privileged to experience. Vitabot takes this highly advanced technology, and through an extremely straightforward set of user-friendly interfaces, makes it accessible to everyone.
This unique nutrition-based approach has been received by many industries with much enthusiasm. The system has been rapidly sweeping the health club industry, with over 1500% growth in the last year alone in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. Corporate wellness programs have accepted this nutrition-based approach with open arms, and the system has been used with large aerospace corporations and major motion picture studios to help their employees eat better. The system has received critical acclaim from top nutritionists and trainers.
